🌼🌼NOW LIVE!!! Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score đŸŒźđŸŒź

REVIEW 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼Things We Never Got Over is AMAZING! I’ve read almost every single one of Lucy’s books and this is one of her very best. If you are a fan of Rip from Yellowstone, you will LOVE Knox Morgan! I related to Naomi (aka NotTina) in a lot of ways, and the supporting cast of characters rivals the folks from Blue Moon, the series that made me fall in love with Lucy’s writing. This is a story that calls to you while you’re busy adulting, so good luck ignoring that siren song. Better make time in your schedule over the next couple days, because it’s very hard to resist! 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼

If you’re a fan of the audiobook, Sebastian York is the male narrator for TWNGO. I wish I’d known that when I read it, because I would have heard his voice in my head the whole time!!!

🌲🌲 BOOK REVIEW 🌲🌲 SMARTYPANTS ROMANCE RELEASE 🌲🌲 FORREST FOR THE TREES, Green Valley Heroes book 1, by Kilby Blades đŸŒ˛đŸŒ˛

Forrest for the Trees, an all new slow burn small town romance from Kilby Blades, is LIVE in Kindle Unlimited!

Forrest Winters isn’t just a federal fire marshal; he’s a thorn in Ranger Sierra Betts’s side. The way he swings his big axe, fixes her with his chameleon gray eyes, and talks about his jurisdiction has a way of breaking her concentration. He has a way of showing up everywhere he doesn’t belong, including Greenbrier Ranger Station. And he really needs to quit stealing her bacon bites.

When a series of suspicious fires, an underhanded co-worker, and a cagey Parks Police Chief threaten her job and the park itself, Sierra grudgingly agrees to partner with Forrest. Their side investigation may be her best shot at preventing the framing of an innocent man. But can his firefighting expertise and her detective skills lead them to the real arsonist before Forrest breaks her with his charm?

‘Forrest for the Trees’ is a full-length contemporary romance, can be read as a standalone and is book #1 in the Green Valley Heroes series, Green Valley Chronicles, Penny Reid Book Universe

⭐️⭐️REVIEW ⭐️⭐️ I love reading about the Smoky Mountains National Park! I fell in love with Tennessee and the Park while reading Penny Reid’s Winston brothers books, and the subsequent Smartypants Romance books that Daisy Prescott wrote about Rangers in the Smokies. I was really excited to read this addition to SPR.

I liked the characters well enough, but the book was a little slow for me. I did like having characters from previous books pop up (two in particular, from one of my favorite books in SPR, which I will not spoil here).

I do hope there are more Ranger books in the SPR future, because I can’t get enough of reading about the goings on in the park. I even made a trip out last spring to see it in person, and it’s to fun to read about places I’ve been.

Thanks to Penny Reid and Smartypants Romance for the opportunity to read and review this book.⭐️⭐️

Excerpt

“Do you walk around with bacon in your pocket or something?” Sierra asked.

Forrest gave Everest a final rub and rose to his feet. “I reckon it’s just good, old-fashioned Southern charm.”

Reaching toward his face, he pushed up the temple of his sunglasses until they sat on top of his head. Forrest looked down at her, smirk on his face, as usual, having his fun. Only, for Sierra, there was nothing fun about the heat that rose to her ears every time his gaze set on her, clouding her thinking with his smoky eyes.

Forrest’s eyes weren’t just gray, and they weren’t “just eyes.” His gaze was penetrating and clear, with dark lashes that matched his dark hair. His irises were never the same, though whatever their hue at any given moment, a dark charcoal ring that looked like drawn pencil outlined the lighter color, adding intensity. Today they shone brightly—the color of wet shale—a stark difference from the last time she’d seen him. They’d turned dark, like slate, when he’d talked about the fires. There was something wondrous, and magical, and devastating about watching the way they changed.

“What are you doing in my neck of the woods?”

Forrest chuckled and crossed his arms. “Your woods again, huh?”

Sierra mirrored his posture. “‘Neck of the woods’ is a Southernism. I know how y’all like your sayings.”

He laughed again, his voice rich and deep—another thing about him she had the bad habit of replaying in her mind.

“Better than a pig likes slop.” Forrest’s eyes twinkled.

It made Sierra grateful for her own sunglasses—windows to her soul, and all. She didn’t want to think what Forrest might notice if he really saw her then. He would never stop gloating if he knew of her susceptibility to his allure.

“You never said what you were doing here,” she pointed out.

“Following up on some potential fire hazards. Just being vigilant. You know how it is …”

Sierra nodded. “I do.”

“I was just down at the ranger station …” he began haltingly. “I wanted to thank you for what you left me—you know, my fire marshal snacks.”

Sierra bit her lip against her own smile. “You liked that, huh?”

“Not just me. The guys thought it was pretty funny.”

“You told me you could read, so I figured …” She trailed off innocently, and shrugged.

After their last conversation and his repeated, willful ignorance of her Tupperware marked specifically as being “Ranger Snacks,” she’d brought in a smaller Tupperware labeled “Fire Marshal Snacks.”

“Sad thing is, a different fire marshal must’ve beat me to it,” he continued. “Imagine my disappointment when I opened the container and it was empty.”

“Oh, no!” She feigned shock. “What did you do?”

“Picked up the phone and called Ed Ellis. Asked him to put out an APB to track down whoever had my bites.”

“Then you helped yourself to the ranger bites, I’m guessing.”

He made a production out of looking distraught. “They’re not as good as fire marshal bites, but I had no choice.”

He didn’t take his gaze off of her. When heat rose again in her ears, she knew she had to go. Plus, if she didn’t get moving, she really would be late.

“Nice to see you, Marshal Winters.”

His smirk melted into a half-smile. “Always a pleasure, Ranger Betts.”

BOOK REVIEW: This book should not have resonated with me. At all. I’m quite a bit older than the couple in the book, but more importantly, I am NOT a gamer. I have kids who are gamers, not to the extent that Max and Jonathan are, but that’s about the closest I come to the world that these two characters inhabit. I don’t really understand that world, to be honest. But this book made me FEEL like I was a part of that world.

I love a couple with a complicated history. This book’s couple has this, even if it’s not really the “traditional” way of looking at a couple who have known each other for 10 years. Their relationship, which takes place entirely online until the first chapter of this book, could probably be classified at Enemies-to-Lovers from Max’s perspective, but Jonathan looks at it quite differently.

This book also tackles mental illness. There is mental illness in my family, and I thought the subject was treated with great care. Whether you have experience with family members with mental illness or not, this book will give you insight into loving and caring for people who are going through it.

It’s hard to believe that this is the author’s first book. I’m so happy that she is writing for Smartypants Romance and the Green Valley chronicles. I hope we get more from this author, because I think both Norm and Lois deserve their own stories and I can’t wait to read more about them!

Thanks to Smartypants Romance and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Librarian Maxine Peters lives her life behind the scenes. By day, she’s a buttoned-up cataloguing whiz in the basement of the Green Valley Public Library. By night, she’s secretly dominating in an online role playing game as the legendary Maximus_Damage. Her in-game persona has the skills to back up the hype. But every hero has an enemy; every saga, a villain. And by her own invitation, Maximus’ arch nemesis, Wrath, has just landed in Green Valley.

Jonathan Owen is not at all who Maxine expects when she meets Wrath face to face. Eager to leave the past in the game, Jonathan takes this golden opportunity to win Maxine’s heart. There’s just one wrench in that plan: he may have, on a few occasions, acted like a bit of a jerk online. And to his puzzlement, she has taken their fun rivalry to the level of epic dislike.

When Jonathan and Maxine are unexpectedly alone for a weekend, secrets are revealed that make love hard and hatred even harder. Jonathan quickly learns fighting his own demons will take more than one elite gamer. And Maxine, who is busy rebooting her life in Green Valley, might not be up to the task.

When real life starts to override the game, can Maxine and Jonathan find a way to make it work? Or will it be game over for this player versus player adventure?

Dewey Belong Together’ is a full-length contemporary romance and can be read as a standalone. Book #7 in the Green Valley Library series, Green Valley Chronicles, Penny Reid Book Universe.

Book Review: One Moment Please, Wait with Me book 3 by Amy Daws

Flatlay-SQUARE-download

5 of 5 surprisingly emotional stars

I love the Wait with Me series. Amy Daws is an excellent storyteller. That being said, surprise pregnancy stories are not my favorite, so I did not expect to like this book as much as the previous two. I should have known better. This book not just Surprise Pregnancy. It’s also an Enemies to Lovers-Roommates-Grumpy Doctor Hero-Waiting Room Meet Cute-Standalone RomCom. It’s also funny, and emotional, and heart-warming, and did I mention funny?

Cheese-download copy

The author who holds the gold standard of being able to make me laugh out loud one page and cry the next is Kristan Higgins. But Amy Daws is just as good at it! The hero of this story, Josh (aka Dr. Dick!) is SUCH a jerk at the beginning of the book, but we learn that he has a situation in his past that caused him to basically put up a wall between him and the world, not letting anyone get close, not believing he is capable of giving love, or worthy of receiving it. It would have been easy for the author to make him into a two dimensional character and have a sudden realization that he COULD love and be loved. But she goes much deeper than that, and the way it is resolved is so beautiful and touching and heart-warming. Amy Daws is really becoming one of my favorite authors.

Stress at the pregnant woman

The sign of a good book in a series that you enjoy is when you want to go back and read the entire series over again when you’re done with each new release. This book definitely made me want to do that. I liked Wait with Me, but I LOVED Next in Line (which was my first Amy Daws book, btw.) I definitely want to go back and read all three in a row now. And you should too! Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

blurb

One Moment Please-front-size down

That awkward moment when an ER doctor has to inform you that you’re pregnant…with his baby.

Three things Lynsey Jones knows about the hot doctor: he’s grouchy, an arrogant jerk, and strangely obsessed with pie.

Three things Dr. Josh Richardson knows: he doesn’t talk about his past, he doesn’t do relationships, and the crazy girl in the hospital cafeteria who ate a fistful of French silk pie…is annoyingly irresistible.

After a chance meetup at a bar and a heated cab ride together, things come to a head and now instead of hating each other, they’re horizontal in a bed.

Three months later, the weird cafeteria stalker who crept out of Josh’s house like a thief in the night, winds up as his patient in the ER after her Tinder date from hell.

The doctor is prepared to keep it cool and professional. That is until her bloodwork reveals she’s pregnant.

What really throws him for a loop…is the surprise baby…is his.

What happens when the seriously hot and growly ER doctor who kicked you out of a hospital cafeteria turns into an epic one-night-stand? Well, for starters, a surprise pregnancy. Dr. Josh Richardson never wanted a family, but Lynsey’s about to give him one. And if they have any hope of co-parenting, they need to learn how to co-habituate…and try not to kill or kiss each other in the process.

Review: The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

519MFfKuuAL

4 of 5 original stars

I’ve blogged about my love for books by Christina Lauren in the past. I try to read their new ones as soon as they come out. I was able to snag this book pretty quickly at my library and dove into it right away. It’s an Enemies-to-Lovers story, with a bit of Vacation Fling thrown in for good measure. Enemies-to-Lovers is not my favorite trope, but since it was a CL book, I knew that I would enjoy it. And I was right.

The story begins at the wedding of Olive’s twin sister and Ethan’s brother, where suddenly the entire wedding party comes down with food poisoning, save Olive and Ethan. Since the bride and groom can’t go on their honeymoon to Maui, they insist that Olive and Ethan go instead. The problem is, they can’t stand each other, but how can they pass up a free trip to Hawaii? (It is free for Olive and Ethan, but was also free for Olive’s sister, Ami, who won it in a contest. But that’s a whole different part of the story!) They go on the trip, and are determined to keep to themselves and avoid each other at all costs, but of course, that’s not the way things end up.

If you’ve never read a CL book, I’m here to tell you that these two ladies write funny, funny stuff. I read most of this book on a bus full of middle school choir students on the way to/from an amusement park, and I kept chuckling and snorting loudly, and I do not apologize for that! My favorite ongoing joke is that at the beginning, Ethan pretends he doesn’t know Olive’s name, even though they’ve known each other for years, and calls her “Olivia” every time he sees her. But once they have gotten to know each other a little better, and like each other a little more, the two of them start calling each other by different names as more of a term of endearment than a show of disrespect. It made me laugh out loud every time. Olive and Ami’s huge, all-up-in-their-business family adds lots of hilarity, as well.

I’ve stated before that I often have an issue with the conflict a couple goes through in romance novels. A lot of the time, it arises over a stupid misunderstanding, or something that one person overhears, then proceeds to make an incorrect assumption. The conflict that Olive and Ethan go through is not only completely understandable, it’s also entirely unique to this story. (That’s the thing about a CL book: even if the trope is familiar, their treatment of it is one of a kind.) You can empathize with both characters, and see why each of them feels the way they do, and can’t figure out how the situation is going to be resolved. Again, being a CL book, I would be very surprised if ANYONE was able to guess their path to resolution!

If I’d been reading the kindle version, I would have been highlighting the crap of out this book. That’s how I know it’s an excellent story. If it were written by any other author/s, this book would have deserved 5 stars. But CL has ruined me for other books, and even their own work, as far as ratings go. It has to be a book like Roomies or Love and Other Words to earn a 5-star rating from me. While this book was original and funny, it didn’t grab at my emotions like the two aforementioned books did, (although I did cry a couple of times at the end.)

Bekka and I each have gotten an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of Christina Lauren’s next book, Twice in a Blue Moon, which isn’t out until October. She’s read it already, and after I’ve read my copy, we will do a dual review. Looking forward to that!

Purchase The Unhoneymooners
